Trend: The gentlemans pea coat

The men’s pea coat has remained a staple in men’s outer wear since the early 19th century and continues to stand for class, strength and manliness.

The men’s pea coat originated as outer wear for Navy Soldiers. These wool coats provided warmth for these brave soldiers while they voyaged out to fight for their country.

Originally men’s pea coats were double breasted and made of 30 oz of wool. Today you can find these coats single breasted and made with anywhere from 22 -32 oz of wool. The styles haven’t changed much because the original design is still aesthetically pleasing and appropriate for any activity. These versatile coats can now be found in any number of colors and materials including wool, leather and corduroy, albeit the originals were always dark blue.

If warmth, style, class and versatility are your goal in a winter coat, the men’s pea coats remains one of the most popular choices.

How to wear….Although easily adapted to a smarter outfit,  pea coats are making the biggest statement this season as a key piece in a casual ensemble.

Trend: unbrellas, let it rain

Living in England one essential piece of the everyday fashion kit is the humble umbrella. Like a lot of accessories an umbrella provides a great opportunity to make a statement and with prices starting at just a few pounds they are within everyone’s fashion budget. From frilly and frivolous, daring animal print, to statement prints and colour pops there is a glut of styles on offer.

This has been by far the most fun trend article I have done this season, little did I realise the fantastic range of umbrellas on offer at the moment and  new innovations coming through such as the bike umbrella, couples umbrella as well as all of the designer print ranges on offer.

How cool is this? It’s an umbrella that changes colors when it gets wet (which should be every time you use it unless you’re one of those shade umbrella type people). Designed by UK-based Squid London, these umbrellas are made with hydrochromatic inks that change colors when wet. Unfortunately they only produced them in a limited edition and they are all sold out now.color-changing-umbrella-450x428

Squid London rolled out a limited edition collection of umbrellas that have designs printed on with hydrochromatic inks. The color of the ink is dull and desaturated when dry but as soon as it makes contact with water, all the color comes out.

Now these gorgeous umbrellas are available in what Squid London calls the “Skyline Squidarella Collection,” showing the London skyline in monochromatic view, bursting into a cheery rainbow cityscape as soon as you step out into the London fog. Not bad for $35. Check out the video:

Trend.. Cape-ability

A major fashion trend for this season is the cape. Capes are snug, warm, comfortable, and best of all can hide all manner of lumps and bumps you don’’t want to display. Be careful what you wear them with though. Stick to skinny jeans, leggings and pencil skirts to avoid looking like a umpalumpa you can also add some extra sophistication with long leather gloves.

Tutorial, Jersey necklace

Found this great tutorial for a jersey necklace made from a refashioned t-shirt posted on www.threadbangers.com by Peterpancomplex. for the priginal post click here

Have you seen those fantastic jersey necklaces from www.urbanoutfitters.com? Are you poor like me and don’t want to spend the 28 bucks? Well here’s your thrifty stylish alternative that looks the same!

WHAT YOU NEED:

STEP 1

Cut off the bottom hem of your shirt.

STEP 2

Cut the shirt width-wise, making strips about 1 inch wide each.

STEP3

Take a strip and pull, until all the material has curled in on itself and makes the width much shorter.

STEP4

Repeat, repeat, repeat until you have as many strips as you want for your necklace. Cut the strips to the desired length you want hanging around your neck and then arrange them in loops, one over the other. Make sure you’ve tied each strip after you cut tem so they are one consistent O shape and not broken. Save an extra strip though!

STEP5

Now take an extra strip and loop it around a part of the bunch of loops and tie it securely. Make sure you get it tight!

STEP6 (optional)

Embellishment time! Break out those buttons you’ve never had a match for! That earring you lost the pair for! That broken necklace! Or even some old keys! Everything goes!

STEP7 (optional)

Adhere your goodies to a strip any way you want: feel free to sew on some buttons, but Safety pins are your best friend! For a grungy look, tie lots of things instead!

STEP8

Prepare your other fabulous accessories and clothes (I recommend an extra chain or other necklace for added flair).

STEP9

ROCK IT!

Fashion for a cure

Fashion isn’t just about what we wear or how we wear it. It’s also a form of expression and communication.
Since 1992, wearing a pink ribbon has become a symbol of awareness to the fight against breast cancer. And with October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, many designers and brands have released special edition pink products, where proceeds are donated directly to breast cancer research. We have pulled together a few of our favorite items to make it easier for you to dig deep and support a good cause.

kermit

Who says its not easy being green?

When asked what’s fuzzy and green most people think of little Kermit the frog but as of this autumn all of that is set to change……
